hey remember 11 years ago when i was going to make a harvest moon clone starring minoriko but it didn't go anywhere because I was too busy doing absolutely nothing of value instead?
well say hello to the week 1 build of HARVEST MINO, complete with dogshit tiles and the ability to grow a turnip. we're doing it man. we're MAKING THIS HAPPEN. me and my esteemed investors, that is!
I've created this dev blog to talk about the game, so follow if you're interested in seeing this get made from the ground up.
read on for more details!
HARVEST MINO* is Studio Hexeye's next project! it's a touhou-themed farm sim starring Minoriko Aki! The release is targeted for summer 2025.
*(working title that will change later; i doubt natsume's lawyers would like this one very much)
THE STORY
With more youkai and gods seeking refuge from the outside world, Gensokyo's population is growing! That means they need more humans to go around, too. To address this, a number of big name youkai have gotten together and agreed to back off from the HUMAN VILLAGE for a few years and allow it to expand.
Although they're causing fewer incidents, that doesn't mean some of them aren't keeping busy! For instance, KANAKO YASAKA has built YASAKA RESORT TOWN on the side of YOUKAI MOUNTAIN to bring in money from wealthy youkai finding themselves with too much time on their hands.
You are MINORIKO AKI, Gensokyo's lowest-ranking harvest god. With the HUMAN VILLAGE growing, this is a prime opportunity to increase your popularity! KANAKO YASAKA has decided to invest in your venture by granting you a prime piece of farmland near YASAKA RESORT TOWN. If you can ship enough of your divinely-blessed(?) produce to the HUMAN VILLAGE, you're certain to make a name for yourself, leading to faith and riches beyond your wildest dreams! Good luck!
HARVEST MINO DESIGN GOALS
Alternate gameplay modes: CASUAL and SERIOUS
despite being a genre in which you essentially cannot lose, a surprising amount of people find farm sims stressful due to the time management aspects. i intend to cater to this audience with some simple rules changes in an alternate gameplay mode.
SERIOUS is your standard farm sim experience - each day is on a timer, and you'll complete the game and have your performance evaluated after two years. this mode also includes a few additional restrictions to make the resource management of the game a bit more involved.
CASUAL removes the time limits. the clock on each day stops when it hits midnight (like in SNES harvest moon!) so you have all the time you need to wrap up before going to bed, and you complete the game by reaching a certain story goal, whenever you get around to it. it is also more friendly towards filling out your farm with automated stuff like sprinklers, since time doesn't matter anyway.
More choice/depth in farm design
lemme get this out of the way: i hate stardew's endgame. the biggest moneymaker in the game is filling your greenhouse with ancient fruit and turning it into wine; the bulk of your profits come from tossing your fruit into kegs once a week and ignoring your farm otherwise. i think this sucks and one of my design goals is to make the value of income sources proportional to how much manual effort they require.
another thing that has always bugged me about farm sims is that the way you lay out your farm is generally decided for you by the way your tools work. if your watering can upgrade targets a 3x3 of tiles, then all your plots are going to be 3x3. in harvest mino you'll be able to choose from multiple upgrade patterns for your tools, so you can have crops in rows, blocks, the ol' C pattern, or whatever you like. we're going back to old harvest moon rules, where you can't walk through crops after they sprout, so plan your layout well!
Harem end??
let's get real, when it comes to farm sims, the girls are what we're really here for, right?
to be forthcoming, I'm not planning to have marriage in the game per se - I don't think it makes a lot of sense for creatures that are hundreds of years old to make a commitment like that after knowing each other for only a year or so - but the end goal is functionally the same, to get them to move in with you.
now, few, if any, farm sims feature the coveted HAREM END. this is understandable, it would be a design nightmare to have 5+ NPCs pathing through your house at any given time. however, by planning around it from the start, we can make it a reality! in this game, in addition to the usual requirements, each girl you're interested in will require you to build her a specific addition to your house to accommodate her. this gives them their own space to move around and will really improve the vibe that you're living together.
(don't forget that you will need a steadily-increasing bed size as well.)
Fast travel!
you're a 2hu! you can fly! you'll be able to open up your map, just pick a spot, and fly there! (in SERIOUS MODE, this will cost a small amount of daytime).
Adventure!
you're a 2hu! there's gotta be shooting! the game will feature "adventure zones" where you can blast through enemies while searching for forage and loot. exactly what this gameplay will look like is still up in the air, but right now I'm thinking room-based twin-stick shooting, Smash TV style. (don't worry about the difficulty, it'll be approachable for anyone. ASTROLANCER was a learning experience.) plus you'll be able to bring a girlfriend along to help!
Additional note concerning the cast:
the game is currently in very early planning and as such is in roster hell!! the cast is not set in stone so I won't be revealing too much yet. i have to limit how many characters are in the game to keep dev time under control so try not to be disappointed if your favorite 2hu doesn't show up.

Hello everyone! This blog will create polls for everyone to decide if [character] would become a servant to or otherwise aligned with [one of the Fears from The Magnus Archives podcast].
*See explanations of Avatars and different Fears here.
Submission rules:
(by "submit" we mean "send an ask"; submissions are turned off)
1. Please submit a character with 1) their source and 2) one Fear you hypothetically assign them to. If the source is eponymous with the character, please still specify it! We don't like to doubt ourselves. If you don't do the second thing, we will not assign them myself and will, therefore, not make a poll.
2. You can submit OCs if you link a resource with information about them.
3. You can submit real people based on a media/stage persona, but must include a reason for submission. No billionaires or politicians please.
4. Your ask can include one or two sentences of propoganda. If you include more, it will be posted as a comment on the poll instead.
5. You can submit a character that already appeared, but with a different Fear.
6. Please limit yourself to 1-2 asks at a time* (as in, wait until they get their polls then request more). This way the turnover time for each person will be smaller, and we'll have more fun!
7. You can now also submit a character, place or object to be polled as a manifestation! These can be real or fictional and pretty much the same rules apply as for avatars.
*Feel free to submit more (I won't be mad, I promise), but I'll split them up if there are a lot from the same media/submitter in a row
The wonderful inspirations and the blogs I will humbly ask to promote me: @bracketsoffear @canyourfavesurvivecastledracula @sexiestpodcastcharacter @couldtheycatchkira @wouldtheybecomekira @couldtheydestroythering @can-they-beat-goku
You can check what polls have already run or look at the data in this spreadsheet:
Options that will appear on polls are under the cut!
The polls will assume that a character will by default have a relevant experience or otherwise be exposed to the Entities' existence. "No, there would be no reason for it to begin happening" will not be an option - what's the point and the fun of this blog then?
Yes, willingly: the character would embrace the possibility of getting some sick nightmare powers.
Yes, by coercion: they would go through with it, but only if threatened with a loved one's life or something along those lines.
Yes, by unawareness or conditioning: they wouldn't realize until it's too late or would be raised to be an avatar, unaware their way of existence is not normal.
No, they would decline/resist from the start: they have enough fortitude to not act on any of their changes and/or decline any offers of such changes.
No, they would go along but stop before the transformation: willingly or not, they would be on the right track but would stop before the point of no return.
Introduced on 07.02.24:
No, they would already be an avatar for another Fear: they would display another alignment long before the one discussed, with the choice between them unlikely to occur in one of the above ways or at all.
Introduced on 19.01.25
No, but they would be a victim of this Fear: they ultimately would be consumed by the Fear after encountering it, unable to escape it but either unwilling or unable to become an avatar.
I don't know this character/See results: self-explanatory.

cursory research on god*jesus robot -or- uranai robo :
this little critter , with a carapace of plastic and entrails of silicon , wires and weak metal alloys , was released by bandai japan in nineteen-eighty-four . a fortune telling robot coated in a thick , shallow and strange veneer of sterile-marketable christian iconography . from what i've been able to surmise through limited research-scowering websites , reading words , viewing images and deducing connections between it all-of course it's undeniable and obvious that uranai robo is a simple , purposefully ephemeral novelty toy , especially reflected in the intended use of the toy as the user is meant to wish-pray to uranai robo and recieve one of four simple and incredibly vague responses . an interaction just as shallow as the toy's design and iconography .
(below) uranai robo's printed box instructions (left) and smile two monstrosity puppet articulation appreciation as filler because i hate tumblr mobile post architecture auto-structuring of making a lone image in a row of post format space so freaking huge and obnoxious and ugly !!! >:( ugh , anyways , a post of smile two monstrosity puppet articulation appreciation is slowly boiling into being in my drafts , channelling the absolute rage which festers within me over its being almost entirely cut from the fiiiilm !!! >_< (right , unrelated)

directions of use : 1) stand before god*jesus , 2) clap and clasp your hands in prayer , 3) make your wish-seek guidance from god*jesus . 4) god*jesus responds .
uranai robo has four repsonses to the supplicant ; two of them being head nods of affirmation-confirmation-motivation , one of which being gentle and the other stern . the other two being head shakes of denial-skepticism-trepedation , again one being soft and the other more assertive .
(below) images on uranai robo boxes depicting little demonstrations of how to use the toy .

the demonstrations on the toys' boxes are an interesting point of fascination for me , begetting frantic speculation spurred on by the absurd vagueness of the story presented and the way such uncertainty feeds into my schizoaffective nature . i'll save these readings and analysis for an addendum to this post as i want this post to stand on it's own , primarily , as a resource for uranai robo-based education . though , in regard to speculative lore analysis of the box demonstrations , i'm particularly interested in the nigh-complete and total distillation of an intimate interpersonal relationship into its barest , shallowest elements-quarks .
the curious aesthetic beauty of a godless machine* made with the sole and tired purpose of novelty , marketability and profit , nothing deeper , nothing more . *the word machine used as lightly as possible , uranai robo is still a simple toy after all , 'trinket' would be an apt descriptor .
their are a few delightful color varients , (below , left) uranai robo sporting a warm , gentle orange . notably weilding a cross . perhaps a weapon ??? (below , right) uranai robo clad in such a soft and beautiful pink

(below) uranai robo encased within their protective styofoam shelter , probably saying something along the lines of 'th-this is my hole ! it was made for me !'

(above , left) uranai robo freed from their veritable sarcophagus . (above , right) beauty shot .
what a strange thing to become hyperfixated upon , was upset with the initial post as it centered uranai robo as its sole subject while simultaneously containing literally ZERO information whatsoever on uranai robo , simply posted for aesthetics-which is not at all any amount of shade to the original poster !! all love to you sandmandaddysixtynine <3 , drove me into a frenzy scowering for information and learning more of this beautiful little fucker , and i must thank you immensely for it , this drive has been such a beautiful change of pace :,)
sources : shop listing on mercari , blog on medium created by margaret wallace at the tail end of twenty-eighteen , the old robots website , blog on playing in the world game ᵃˢ ᵒⁿᵉ of which i've sadly been unable find any information regarding when it was published and who created it further than the penultimate sign-off of 'the wolf has spoken' .

The Future of Sustainable Farming: Exploring Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
In an era where water conservation and sustainable agriculture are more critical than ever, micro drip irrigation systems have emerged as a revolutionary solution for farmers and growers. These systems provide a precise, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to deliver water and nutrients directly to plant roots, minimizing waste and maximizing productivity.
In this blog, we will explore what micro drip irrigation systems are, how they work, their benefits, installation tips, and why they are becoming the preferred choice for modern farming.
What Are Micro Drip Irrigation Systems?
Micro drip irrigation systems are a type of irrigation method that delivers water directly to the base of plants in small, controlled amounts. Unlike traditional irrigation methods that often lead to water wastage through evaporation, runoff, or deep percolation, micro drip irrigation targets only the root zone of each plant, ensuring water efficiency and healthy plant growth.
These systems consist of a network of pipes, valves, emitters, and filters that work together to create a low-pressure watering environment. The emitters release water slowly, drop by drop, allowing it to seep into the soil without oversaturation.
Key Components of Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
To understand how micro drip irrigation systems function, it's essential to know their core components:
Mainline Tubing: The primary water supply line that connects the system to the water source.
Emitters or Drippers: Devices that release water in small amounts at a consistent rate.
Filters: Prevent debris from clogging the emitters and ensure a clean water supply.
Pressure Regulators: Maintain the required pressure level for even water distribution.
Valves and Connectors: Control the flow and direction of water within the system.
How Do Micro Drip Irrigation Systems Work?
The process begins with water flowing from a source (such as a well, tank, or municipal supply) through the mainline tubing. Filters clean the water before it reaches the emitters. As water reaches each emitter, it drips directly onto the soil near the plant roots. This slow and steady watering method ensures that moisture penetrates the soil effectively without causing erosion or runoff.
Since micro drip irrigation systems operate under low pressure, they are energy-efficient and suitable for areas with limited water resources.
Benefits of Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
The growing popularity of micro drip irrigation systems is not without reason. Below are some of the most significant advantages:
1. Water Efficiency
One of the most compelling reasons to adopt micro drip irrigation systems is their ability to conserve water. These systems can reduce water usage by up to 70% compared to conventional methods.
2. Improved Plant Health
By delivering water directly to the roots, micro drip irrigation systems prevent overwatering and reduce the risk of diseases caused by excess moisture on leaves and stems.
3. Nutrient Optimization
Fertilizers and nutrients can be mixed with water and delivered through the irrigation system (a process known as fertigation), ensuring precise application and reducing nutrient leaching.
4. Cost Savings
Although the initial setup cost might be higher than traditional methods, micro drip irrigation systems save money in the long run through reduced water and labor costs.
5. Scalability
These systems are highly adaptable and can be used in small gardens, greenhouses, large farms, orchards, and vineyards.
Applications of Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
The versatility of micro drip irrigation systems makes them suitable for various agricultural and landscaping purposes, including:
Row Crops: Ideal for vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers.
Orchards and Vineyards: Provide deep root irrigation for fruit-bearing trees and vines.
Greenhouses: Offer precision irrigation in a controlled environment.
Home Gardens and Lawns: Perfect for maintaining healthy plants while conserving water.
Installation Tips for Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
Installing micro drip irrigation systems is relatively straightforward, but certain best practices can enhance efficiency:
Plan the Layout: Map your planting area and design the irrigation path accordingly.
Use Quality Filters: Clean water is essential to prevent emitter blockages.
Monitor Pressure Levels: Use pressure regulators to maintain optimal flow.
Test Before Planting: Run the system and check for leaks, clogs, or uneven distribution.
Regular Maintenance: Clean filters and flush lines periodically to ensure performance.
Environmental Impact of Micro Drip Irrigation Systems
The environmental benefits of micro drip irrigation systems extend beyond water conservation. They help in:
Reducing Soil Erosion: The gentle application of water minimizes surface runoff and erosion.
Minimizing Weed Growth: Since water is delivered only to plant roots, surrounding areas remain dry, reducing weed proliferation.
Lowering Carbon Footprint: By optimizing water and fertilizer use, these systems contribute to sustainable farming with reduced environmental impact.
Challenges to Consider
While the advantages are numerous, micro drip irrigation systems also have a few challenges:
Clogging: Emitters may get blocked if the water is not properly filtered.
Initial Cost: Setup costs may be a concern for small-scale farmers.
Technical Knowledge: Requires a basic understanding of system design and maintenance.
However, with proper training and planning, these challenges can be easily managed, making the system a worthwhile investment.
Conclusion
Micro drip irrigation systems represent a significant step forward in the journey toward sustainable agriculture. By optimizing water usage, enhancing crop quality, and reducing labor and resource costs, they offer a smart solution to the challenges faced by modern farmers. Whether you are cultivating a small home garden or managing a large-scale farm, adopting micro drip irrigation systems can transform your agricultural practices and contribute to a greener future.
If you’re looking to boost your farm’s efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and improve crop yield, there’s no better time than now to explore the benefits of micro drip irrigation systems.

SG-1 Rewatch "Live Blogging" pt 8
Season 3 part 3. This is episodes 15-22. Remember these are going to be pretty long so continue at your own risk. :)
It's time to go! Pretense
Let's save Skaara.
Schrodinger!
Ok. So Schoridinger was a messenger. I would have sent a signal but ok.
"I feel like I"m being served." SO technically yes.
I love how concerned Daniel is for Skaara. It's family after all.
He may not have been able to save Sha're but he can save Skaara....Tollans apparently built a stargate.
They were summoned for a trial and brought weapons? OH come on.
Ah yes. The weapon disabling ray.
Ok Jack's reliance on weapons is getting old.
Daw Daniel asking for definition. Archon is like a lawyer and seek equals defendant.
Tollans made a device to allow Skaara to speak and to know which is speaking. This could be helpful for the Tarui and any race encountering the Goa'uld. But of course the Tollans don't share.
Daniel cares more about Skaara's Triad than the weapons.
Klorel's Archon is....Zipacna. Keeping with the flamboyance of the goa'uld I see.
The Tollans continue to not communicate worth shit. :/ Lya is good to see I guess.
Seriously, the Tollans didn't explain what the triad was or what it entailed or provide any information that would have been useful at all.
Jack thinks it'll be easy and Daniel is prepared for the worst.
"Keep an eye on Zippy's kids." Jack
Skaara really should have chosen just Daniel. Jack is not going to help this.
"Until you came." Skaara's acknowledgement that Daniel helped free his people is sweet.
Zipacna comparing humans to animals is an invalid point.
Humans can communicated their feelings and emotions in a way the goa'uld can understand. That places them on similar levels.
OH. Good call Daniel. The Goa'uld are not more intelligent just more resourceful.
Skaara telling us how he watched Klorel try to kill Daniel. Trapped inside himself unable to stop anything. Poor kid.
Zippy's kids are doin somethin.
Zipacna is trying to pull the "nothing of the host remains" bs. Daniel obviously doesn't buy it. lol
Sam is still trying to suss out her feelings and Jolinar's feelings.
Zipacna denied the accusation....Duh.
The Tollan arrogance is astounding. :/
Teal'c is right to question the methods of the Tollan. But Jack knows it'll hurt Skaara's case.
"We defend ourselves through illusion." "Precisely."
Zipacna pointing out the goa'uld require a host so they cannot remove Klorel without killing him...
Why are people so insistent that the Tauri accept being hosts? Like Lya suggested that Jack take Klorel. Lya, a pacifist, suggested someone accept a serial killer into their body. What the hell?
Jack and Daniel favor Skaara. Zippy for Klorel and Lya for Skaara.
Skaara will be freed. Hurray.
Weapons may not work in the triad room but fists do.
Jack this no time for sarcasm. lol
Gee, if only someone had warned the Tollans of the threat. Good on Teal'c for not letting the matter drop.
Aw. Daniel is covering Lya. He's so considerate.
Skaara runs over to Jack but Daniel did most of the work. lol.
Anyway....Urgo.
The silly "sayings" at the beginning.
"MMM mineral survey." Jack you've been watching the Simpsons haven't you.
Jack and his goodbyes. lol
Oh joy, memory shenanigans. It's not like they had issues last time someone went poking in their heads.
The second MALP doesn't show the first and oh look a lab.
The coffee scene. Jack first then Daniel....Sam and now Teal'c is about to chug the pot.
Daniel flinching from Urgo's singing.
"I see." "Oh I wish you did."
What did Urgo say about Janet? 0_0
Urgo made Sam burn herself. What an asshole.
Wonder how long booting up all of her computers will take after shutting them off?
Urgo turns into one of the Deluise boys. lol
"way to go sam?" Yes.
Monitoring them..."Row, row, row your boat." oh dear.
Daniel is really into it.
Welp they are relieved of active duty.
"He didn't mean to." "It was not his intention." lol
Urgo asked and Sam answered. It's just like Daniel does sometimes.
Diplomat Daniel. Oh dear, he mentioned Urgo.
Urgo is afraid to die.
Jack doesn't believe Urgo is alive.
Togar and Urgo look the same.
Urgo must exist in a living thing."I want to live. I want to experience the universe and eat pie."
Daniel speaking up for Urgo shows how compassionate he is for nearly all forms of life.
Togar reminds me of the Professor from Sliders. lol
"How do we know Urgo is really alive?" (chattering) "He's alive."
And it ends the way it began. lol
Ugh. A Hundred Days.
Urgo is annoying but it's a fun episode with good scenes. This one is....tough.
Daniel explaining falling stars
On Chulak they call it "Tal'Pak'Rye" which means....falling star.
Daniel are you chewing a toothpick...the way you are doing that is dangerous.
For some reason I thought this was a season 6 episode.....I don't know why. I just for some reason remembered Jonas and not Daniel.
Morning Campers.
Lira knowing her son takes a girl to the cave is a bit funny.
So apparently Daniel knows a bit about geology. Sure makes some sense.
You know how Jack joked about Daniel having a girl on every planet....yeah well Jack seems to have more ladies. The women Daniel connect to rarely are like that.
The cave was a safe place from the meteors.....makes sense.
Oh joy. Her son is in the caves. :/
About 1/3 of the village stayed behind.
Teal'c immediately want to go back for Jack.
When Daniel said there was nothing they could do, he meant he couldn't stop the fire rain. He didn't mean he couldn't help the people.
Time to send a MALP.
The MALP was destroyed on the other side. OH dear.
Lyra's house looks like it survived the onslaught.
Jack's not in an "I told you so" mood it seems. Looks like the gate is gone (I know it's buried).
Oh nevermind. He has the mood now.
So the working theory is that the naquada has created an iris. Daniel wants to seek help from their allies.
So thus begins Lira's manipulation of Jack. Sorry guys, I really don't like this ep because she gets very selfish about keeping Jack.
"I think we can assume Teal'c would volunteer." Damn skippy. Sam is now getting started on a particle accelerator. Meanwhile Jack wants to unbury the gate.
The Tollan's ship will take about a year and oh look Janet notices Sam's feelings for Jack.
"If Daniel is right, and he always is." Jack care.
"I was wondering which direction home was." And Lyra points to her house. Lyra is clearly not over her husband and she's perhaps unconsciously trying to replace him with Jack. That's not fair to Jack at all. Jack doesn't belong on Edora. It's not his home. He as people waiting for him on Earth and if he were allowed or even encouraged to unbury the gate, the Edora's could have made it home sooner. But instead Lyra pressured Jack to give up.
See the time skip makes Jack's sudden 'love' for Lyra seem out of place. :/
I love that Sam never gave up on Jack. How the team never gave up trying to get him home. It's a shame Jack wasn't allowed that much.
Time for Teal'c to attempt a rescue.
Ok so Jack is drunk. Coherent but drunk......wait what! Lyra what? Why the hell are you telling him this when he's drunk?Hopefully (and I know it is) the harpoon gun is long enough. lol
Wonder which tastes worse. The Tolka or Skaara's moonshine. Lol
Laiyra wants to throw out Jack's things. She finally got him to give up.
Once the gate closes, Teal'c will have 4hrs of O2. "Then you may want to wish me "rel'tor'key." (good luck.)
The radio is picking up on the fact that they got the gate open.
It bugs me that Layra waits so long before telling Jack that the radio picked up voices. Why? because Teal'c could have died just because she wanted Jack.
"Teal'c you are one stubborn son of a bitch." Yes he is. Loyal to a fault.
Poor Sam. She worked so hard to save Jack, because she was worried for him and she finds that Jack "moved on."
Huh? I didn't realize Shades of Gray was right after 100 days.
See I never really bought that Daniel wanted to get the weapons teach from the Tollans. It's obviously a set up for the plot but it doesn't make much sense. (Jack steals the anti weapon tech)
The fact that they are able to get away with it without sirens or alarms should be our first clue this is a set up.
Too be fair the anti weapons thing should be allowed to be shared.
Daniel is annoyed. Valid.
Teal'c's body language told Jack that he didn't approve. lol
Jack acting a tad out of character but within at the same time is strange.
Anyone paying attention knows that Jack is acting strange and that something is clearly up. We just know know what.
"Teal'c you are no longer under O'Neill's command." Basically, you don't follow his orders any more.
"I know you are wise enough not to hold the actions of one man against an entire planet." Daniel is right and annoyingly the Tollan goes "But you didn't stop him did you." What did you want them to do use violence to stop him? I thought the Tollan were against violence?
Sam is clearly so very hurt about this.
The way he hurt her intentionally.
"I'm a criminal?" Jack you stole something. Yes you are a criminal.
Early retirement. Lol. Jack pointing out that he tried that once.
Time for Daniel to come see Jack.
"I don't really like beer." I don't like it either Daniel.
So was the backup site part of the ploy?
Daniel being visibly hurt by the fact that Jack "wasn't' the person he thought" really hurts.
Here's this guy Daniel's risked his life for on multiple occasions because he thought Jack was a good man and now....it seems he isn't.
OH joy....Maybourne. bluh
Maybourne showing up really didn't take long at all. Lol.
Sam was very right about Maybourne. He's an idiot. lo
You know, I thought Makepeace was decent....until now. But also Sam deserved the command and Daniel was right to speak up for her.
"I never really trusted Jack's command" Daniel that's not true and you know it. You never really agreed with it but you did often trust him.
Really though, I mentioned Makepeace in a decent light in one of my prior notes.
"Dangerous is another word I would use." I'd call it illegal and reckless but that's just me.
What a severe waste of money Mayborne. You want to be in the air just so you can't be overheard? paranoid jack ass.
OH look Telesphere
Hello, Newman. lol
"The jaffa" has a name.
Jack wants to "retire" on Edora. bluh
Huh. Daniel is not in the gateroom for Jack's "Goodbye."
Sam, Teal'c, Hammond, and even Janet were there. Daniel wasn't. That conversation really hurt him.
Clarie Tobis shows up later.
And she has the gull to talk shit about Daniel. She's just as much a nerd.
Mayborne basically telling Jack to kill if necessary. Gross. Hate it.
A cloaking device....Interesting. Oh dear they are stealing from the Asgard. Bastards.
So they drop the smaller items for a mole to pick up.
The way Newman isn't suspicious about Jack wanting to do the drop shows how shoddy the thieves are. Makepeace is the mole.
Oh look an asgard showed up.
And they saw the gate address.
"I'll be holding the door open so you can't go anywhere else."
And for the reveal that it was all a ploy. The alien allies came to Jack for help. And to prove Daniel was right about Jack, Jack uses his own words. Poor Daniel actually did do work for his speech at the start.
Of course the team couldn't be involved because Jack is the asgard's pet. -_- But also one of my favorite scenes. "Daniel it meant a lot that you were the one who came. We are actually friends." My headcanon is that Daniel is bluffing. As soon as he heard that Jack was fooling them, Daniel came up with the drew straws idea to get back at Jack for hurting him.
Sam and Tea'c go along because they are equally hurt by Jack's actions.
It is time.... New Ground.
So we have an archeologist much like Daniel unearthing a stargate. 🙂
This guy (Nyan) and his friend narrowly miss the Kawoosh.
So Sam set up a redial program to call addresses that didn't connect the first time to see if it does connect later.
Naquadah ractors function as spare batteries for the gate. Lol
Mallin is indoctrinated by her society. Nyan is rightfully worried our heroes will be killed on sight.
Technically the Bedrosians and Optricans could both be correct.
"no need for concern." he's about to eat those words.
Oh no. Daniel lost his glasses. 😦
Oof. Teal'c has become quite visually impaired. :/
The Bedrosians are so far up their own propaganda that they won't even consider another point of view even if it walked out of the gate and punched them in the face.
No one wants to accept they were fighting a pointless war and yet the Bedrosians are.
Nefertum was a lower system lord to Ra. Oh joy.
I appreciate Nyan's optimism with regards to the truth but given how his government reacted when told of the gate....the scientists might not agree. Oh and the team is caged.
Daniel is getting tortured. 😦
Just because you don't like what you hear doesn't make it a fallacy. lol. They can prove it's real but your fragile ass won't let them. :?
Oh Teal'c is messing with his pouch...ew.
"You are the most important thing that has happened to my planet." Teal'c is not a thing. He's an injured guy.
Jack talks and Daniel gets shocked? How is that fair?
OH look they found the DHD.
The Bedrosian military will kill the team, destroy the gate and then pretend it never happened? Makes sense.
This episode sets up Nyan and he goes nowhere. Was his actor not available for season 6?
The healing device is working. 🙂
"Daniel, you ok?" Daniel looks at Sam like 'seriously?'.
"You know that we come in peace business? Bite me."
Daniel is really adamant about keeping Teal'c unknown. "You will kill him!" "No you will kill him." Typical manipulative bastard. It's not Daniel's fault you are a trigger happy asshat who can't accept change.
Oh no the Malp is about to damage the tent.
Daniel is surprisingly calm for what is going on. I mean he has been doing this for a while but still.
Nyan is pretty good at lying to authority. lol
So do the Bedrosian weapons stun or just kill?
So Daniel did have his glasses. He put them on when running out of the tent to dial home.
OH good Teal'c had his GDO
Teal'c grabbed Nyan. 🙂
So they stun. Ok.
Daniel sets Nyan up with a position as Research Assistant (something that Arden does in my fic btw). But unfortunately, Nyan really doesn't show up again. :/
On to Maternal Instinct.
So the underlying theme of this episode is Daniel's attempt to cling to the last remenants of Sha're. But first Bra'tac!
We find out that Apophis survived the destruction of Neetu. :/
"Somebody's gotta teach that guy how to die." Truer words Jack.
Looks like Bra'tac lost a student.
"On day I will spread his ashes on Apophis's grave" badass Bra'tac. lol
Why did Apohphis thing that his child was on Chulak?
oh. Right. Ammunet's maid or whatever. Right. Oh and Bra'tac knows of Keb.
Calak means soul.
OH. Bra'tac's father was a rebel too.
Yellow code for the cartouche addresses and red for the ancients.
Apparently finding Keb only took talking to Bra'tac. lol
Part of why this is Daniel clinging to Sha're is his attempt to carry out one of Sha're's final wishes. The issue he comes to is realizing he can't do that himself. As much as he wants to prove himself not a failure in his one final task from his beloved wife, he cannot do the thing she asked. It's sad really. He wanted to do this for her, needed to and couldn't. I've seen some people claim Daniel is a jerk here but I don't think so. He's a man still hurting from a loss he thought he could prevent.
During this episode Bra'tac speaks of not being able to carry a primta. He fears that day will be soon and if not for Tretonin, it likely would have come.
Daniel wisely disarms himself. Not sure why he had to take the jacket off to remove his holster but ok. lol A shot of is arms is fine.
OH no, the cryptic bs of the ascended begins.
Don't track dirt. Take your shoes off.
Zen codes and me with out my key.
"I think this is gonna take awhile." You don't say.
Sam and Jack ever the skeptics.
Bra'tac figured out that needing to die is important to ascending.
"like a young man of 80." ok makes sense a Jaffa would see 80 as young. Esp if he is 135.
I still do not get the Candlelight quote. Daniel feels sure he can protect the boy because he feels he must.
I love it when Daniel laughs.
This whole thing is about trust and letting go. Daniel trusting that Oma Desala can care for the boy and letting go that which he cannot change.
I'm wondering....why did Daniel take off his socks?
The annoying thing here is that once again "higher" and 'more evolved' beings can't or rather won't communicate worth shit.
Talking to people often helps avoid them looking like asses. Daniel is, unfortunately, clouded by a desire to protect the boy since that was his mission, his quest. He doesn't want to give that up because it means finally letting Sha're go. He's not really ready to do that yet.
Oma Delsa letting him believe he can do all these things instead of just telling him is annoying.
The issue isn't that Daniel need to learn how to protect the boy. It's about learning that he can't. That this is something he was never going to be able to do, no matter how much it hurts. And boy does it hurt. A lot.
The Ascended can't directly influence 'lower' beings but that doesn't mean Desala couldn't just talk to them. Why the smoke and mirrors? Why let him believe he could do anything? What was the point?
I honestly don't like Oma Desala. I don't care for the Ascended at all really because of later bs. But this just always bugs me. Letting him think he could and making him think it's his fault for not getting the message when it was not only cryptic but giving mixed signals.
If the point was to show Daniel she could protect the boy then why react when Daniel tried to do anything. Why react when he said it was him doing it?
"Jack if you are ever going to trust me now is the time" Daniel he...ok maybe not always but he trusts you.
Does Ascension take the body or ? Cause I don't remember if Daniel left a corpse?
The writers really went "oh no we wrote an overpowered plot child better find a way to remove it from play." :/
Though the starry sky imagery is nice.
"Daniel." "Yeah." "Shoes." lol
Ooooo Crystal Skull.
Unfortunately this episode continues the "reconcile with your family because family" annoyance. More on that later.
Daniel really wants to see the pyramid. Daw.
Wait....Is that the Asgard motif?
OH. Daniel's grandad found a crystal skull in 1971 in Belise....Wait that would make him about 8 right? That would explain so much about why Daniel rejected his grandfather's 'discovery'.
"Nintendos pass through everything." lol
Daniel- talks about the size compared to every known pyramid. Jack-Imagine heating this place. lol
Well looks like Daniel got his heights issue under control. There's that motif again.
Daniel is talkin and no one is listening.....as usual.
Oop. There goes our boy. He invisible. :/
Out phase but still.
The run across the bridge is funny. It's obvious they are running in place. lol
"Where's Dr Jackson." Yeah about that....
Radiation sickness fun.
Meanwhile back in pyramid land....Daniel has been left behind....again.
"IF that thing zaps you to Dr Jackson." "Then I will have succeeded in finding him." lol
Good thing Daniel had the sense to actually follow Teal'c otherwise he'd have been trapped there for who knows how long.
"Recovered from what?" Oh Daniel my boy.
Jack trying to stand up and falling on his....face? lol
Rothman couldn't figure out an ashtray. lol
The fact that Jack knows they can't do much without Daniel is sweet and true. Very, very true.
"well it's a crystal skull" Thank you capt obvious.
Rothman sucks!
Daniel's sweet heart to heart with Teal'c that Teal'c cannot hear.
"It's very disconcerting." I'm sure.
Rothman you are an archeologist not a physicist! That man is so annoying.
Daniel is not hungry or thirsty while out of phase. Thinks he's dead.....well....wouldn't be the first time.
Ah, the UAV search. To protect the teams good call.
Oh dear. Sam wants to talk to Nick.
"Oh you didn't". Daniel's embarrassed.
Daniel thinks his grandfather hates him after their big fight 4 years ago (right before joining the Stargate program).
I think Nick is Daniel's maternal grandfather. (His mom's dad)
"What am I waiting for?" lol. Love it.
It's clear that Nick can see and hear Daniel. The way he reacts makes it obvious.
Really? Nick thought Daniel was more insane than he was? Seriously my guy? You found a crystal skull that teleported you. lol
Nick is a bastard.
"Who's gonna believe him if he says anything?" Good point Jack.
Daniel hearing the conversation Hammond has with his granddaughter. Hammond calling Daniel a "very close friend of mine" is sweet.
Nick describes the pyramid they found the skull.
Giant aliens.
Daniel clearly heard this story multiple times.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
I love Daniel having a separate conversation to the rest. Also "Whatever happened to working through the night? I'd do it for you." I do believe he does at some point.
Sam worked through the night for Jack. :/
NIck asks forgiveness but is still being selfish. Nick should have said something about Daniel and now Nick has the chance to fix is past mistake.
"Jack, don't be an ass."
Nick surmises that he can see Daniel because he went through it. NIck takes advantage of being the only one to see Daniel and tells the team he has to go with them.
Daniel was a young boy and the only family he had left and was abandoned for an obsession. Can you imagine what that might do to someone. It's no wonder he reacts strongly to being left behind, losing someone, or even thinking someone has betrayed him.
Now only Teal'c is out of the loop.
Daniel do your diplomat thing. OH look. Nick gets to stay behind. :/
And once again Nick leaves Daniel to pursue his obsession. Daniel is just supposed to be ok with this. Nick says he'll be back but we know he won't be. It's just sad that the writers didn't do more with this story and how the abandonment impacted Daniel.
Nemsis
And here we have an example of "real life writes the plot." Micheal Shanks really did have appendicitis and it was pretty bad. They had to write Daniel out of the plot for that reason and apparently someone suggested "just have Daniel have surgery for appendicitis". lol
Science is fun for Sam. The team has vacation due to Daniel being out of commission. (Jack invited Sam to fish and had "a date?" look on her face.)
Oops....Jack got nabbed by the Asgard.
And apparently Sam thought it necessary to sound the alarm.
BTW at the thought of fishing with Jack, Daniel decided he did need more time in the infirmary. lol
Meanwhile on the Asgard ship....Replicators.
Teal'c was off world....wonder where. Hopefully with his son but doubt it.
Thor is not doing so well.
Belisknor was Thor's ship. If I recall Belisknor was a necklace worn by Freya in myth. No....that's something else. lol. (edited)
Jack makes an order for explosives in order to play exterminator to the Replicators.
Jack is determined, as usual, to do the one-way mission alone.
Well I was going to look for the meaning of the rune code Thor gave Jack but I can't figure out which alphabet is used.
Sam is watching Thor's notes.
Notably the Asgard did not create the Replicators.
Replicators are like termites for machines and metals. lol
Plan A: crash ship into atmosphere.
[Replicators Crunching] Sometimes I love the subs. lol
Sam do you really think your field training is enough to help an alien that isn't close to human? Helping Teal'c is one thing. Asgards are different.
"Forget that" Jack closes the door. lol
Thor's reluctance to let them put him in stasis makes sense. He wants to help but might die. Teal'c is about to do a space walk....oh and look Daniel is up and about.
Jack hears radiation and let's Teal'c go. lol
Aw. Jack is worried about Teal'c. How sweet.
"one small step for Jaffa."
Oh no. The door closed.
Shit. the tank blew.
The fact that Teal'c trusts Jack when he tells him to push off from the ship is a testament to their friendship.
Teal'c is....out cold. And Thor doesn't seem to be doing much better.
Daneil feels like he needs to be in the action....he knows he should be with the team but he can't. Now he's just got to watch them.
Jack's white shirt and holsters kind of remind me of Han Solo. lol....oh no. the communications are down.
Hammond orders Defcon 2 and to prepare to destroy the ship should it breech the atmosphere in tact and oh look They beamed up the Stargate. The team took a page from Daniel's book and are going to gate to a different world then back home.
Hammond is ordering the beta gate be brought to SGC. So the OG gate is currently on Thor's ship and the Antarctica gate will be put into the mountain becoming the active gate.
Thor's ship went boom. It espoded. Thankfully, I know the team made it off the ship in time. Daniel is worried, rightfully. And oh look one of those bastard bugs survived.
That's the end of Season 3. See you when I've finished Season 4. :)

Top Harvesting Tools for Sunflower Farmers in South Africa
Introduction
South Africa’s sunflower farming industry holds a significant position in the country’s agricultural economy. As one of the top five oilseed crops produced nationwide, sunflower farming contributes not only to local food security but also to international markets. The versatility of sunflowers, grown for their seeds, oil, and feed, has made them a preferred crop among South African farmers.
However, to truly unlock the potential of sunflower farming, it’s crucial to pair quality seeds and good soil with the right farming implements. This is where Falcon Implements steps in — empowering farmers one implement at a time. With over 25 years of experience in providing durable, efficient, and innovative agricultural machinery, Falcon Implements has become a trusted name across Africa, including in sunflower-rich regions of South Africa.
In this blog, we will explore the top harvesting tools essential for sunflower farmers, highlight how Falcon Implements is transforming the harvesting process, and explain why farmers trust Falcon for their mechanization needs.
Harvesting Sunflowers: The Need for the Right Implements
Harvesting sunflowers is a delicate and time-sensitive operation. The crops need to be harvested when moisture levels are optimal to ensure seed quality and oil content are preserved. Manual harvesting is labor-intensive, slow, and often inefficient. Modern mechanized tools allow farmers to harvest more efficiently, reducing post-harvest losses while increasing productivity.
When it comes to mechanized sunflower harvesting in South Africa, the right combination of tractors, implements, and specialized harvesting equipment is essential. Let’s delve into the key implements Falcon offers that are revolutionizing the sunflower harvesting process.

Reliable in off-road and farm conditions
Well-designed trailers improve farm logistics and reduce transport time.
Pre- and Post-Harvest Implements for Sunflower Farming
Harvesting sunflowers doesn’t start and stop with cutting and collecting the crop. The preparation of land before planting and management of the field after harvesting are equally vital for sustainable farming. Falcon Implements provides a complete line of tools that support every stage of sunflower farming.
1. Cultivators, Ploughs, Harrows, and Rotavators
Before sunflower seeds go into the ground, the soil must be properly prepared. Falcon’s range of Cultivators, Ploughs, Harrows, and Rotavators ensures that the soil is well-tilled, aerated, and free of weeds, enhancing seed germination rates and improving yields.
Ploughs break up and invert the soil
Harrows level and refine the soil bed
Rotavators prepare fine tilth for planting
Cultivators manage weeds and aerate soil post-germination
2. Seeders and Seed Drills
Precision planting is critical for sunflower crops, ensuring even distribution and optimal plant spacing. Falcon’s Seeders and Seed Drills are engineered for accuracy and uniform seed placement, improving crop density and reducing seed wastage.
3. Levellers and Groundnut Diggers
Falcon’s Levellers help in creating a uniform field surface before and after planting, essential for sunflower farming to ensure even crop growth and efficient water distribution. While Groundnut Diggers are crop-specific, their soil-lifting and separating functionality can also aid in cleaning up post-harvest fields.
4. Sprayers and Blowers
Maintaining healthy crops through pest and disease control is vital for sunflower yields. Falcon offers Sprayers for efficient application of pesticides and nutrients and Blowers for field cleaning and maintenance.
5. Post Hole Diggers
If sunflower farmers practice fencing or need to install poles for irrigation systems, Falcon’s Post Hole Diggers make the job easy, saving time and labor.

Mastering Your Pitch Delivery for hackathon 2025
A great idea and a solid pitch deck won’t do much if you can’t deliver the pitch effectively. At hackathon 2025, the delivery of your pitch can determine whether your project gets the attention it deserves.
In this blog, we’ll break down how to master your hackathon pitch delivery, so you can present with confidence, clarity, and impact.
🎯 Tip #1: Start with a Hook
The first 10 seconds of your pitch are crucial. Start with a hook that grabs the judges’ attention immediately:
Ask a compelling question: “Have you ever struggled with [problem]?”
Share a shocking statistic: “Over 80% of people in [target group] face this issue daily.”
Tell a short story: “Last year, I spoke to [user] who couldn’t [perform task] due to [problem].”
A strong hook sets the tone for the rest of the pitch and keeps the judges engaged.
🧑💻 Tip #2: Speak Clearly and Confidently
While the content of your pitch matters, how you present it is just as important. To speak clearly and confidently:
Practice: Rehearse your pitch in front of teammates, friends, or even the mirror.
Slow down: Speak at a comfortable pace and avoid rushing through your presentation.
Make eye contact with the judges to connect with them and exude confidence.
Use pauses: Pausing after key points gives your audience time to absorb what you said.
Confident delivery communicates that you believe in your idea—and that’s half the battle.
📊 Tip #3: Focus on the Core Message
You only have a few minutes to make an impression. Stick to the core message:
What’s the problem you’re solving?
What’s your solution?
Why does it matter?
Don’t get lost in the technical details unless they directly contribute to answering these questions. Hackathon judges want to understand your idea quickly and clearly.
💡 Tip #4: Use Visuals to Reinforce Your Message
Visual aids like slides, prototypes, or demos can make a huge difference:
Keep slides simple: Use images, diagrams, and minimal text to reinforce your message.
Avoid using slides full of text—remember, you’re the main speaker, not the slides.
If you have a prototype, show it in action. Hack4Purpose encourages participants to showcase working solutions during the pitch.
Show, don’t just tell.
🧑🤝🧑 Tip #5: Engage with Your Audience
Your pitch isn’t just about you talking—engage the judges by:
Asking questions: “Can you imagine how much easier this would make life for [target group]?”
Creating a story that’s relatable to them: Talk about the problem in a way they can understand.
Using hand gestures and body language to emphasize key points.
The more engaged you are with your audience, the more likely they are to connect with your idea.
🕒 Tip #6: Stick to the Time Limit
Judges are likely to listen to many pitches in a row. Be respectful of their time by:
Time-blocking your pitch: Practice until you can fit your pitch within the allotted time (usually 2-3 minutes).
Rehearsing to make sure you don’t go over time.
Prioritizing: If time is running out, jump straight to the key points and don’t go off-script.
Judges appreciate a pitch that’s clear, concise, and impactful.
📘 Resources from Hack4Purpose
The hackathon 2025 guide offers:
Pitch rehearsal tools and tips
Storytelling templates to craft a compelling narrative
Pitch deck frameworks for clarity and simplicity
With these resources, you’ll be fully prepared to deliver an unforgettable pitch.
💡 Final Tip
The key to a successful pitch is preparation. Practice, refine, and deliver with confidence. Focus on the core problem, solution, and impact, and the judges will see your idea shine.

Unable to Scale Due to High Marketing Expenses? Here’s What To Do!
Companies worldwide invest heavily in marketing their products. While having a substantial budget can offer opportunities, it won’t deliver results without a well-defined strategy. If you’re facing challenges with your marketing expenses and struggling to scale, you may be making some common budgeting mistakes. We’ll explore these issues and show how a strong strategy can help you achieve your marketing goals efficiently. A] Common Marketing Budget Mistakes That Raise Costs If your marketing budget seems to spiral out of control, you might be encountering one or more of these issues. 1. Formula Errors and Overwriting: Budget miscalculations often stem from formula errors in spreadsheets. Issues like adding rows without adjusting formulas or using complex, unprotected sheets can lead to inaccurate budget estimates. Incorrect calculations impact your entire marketing plan. 2. Incorrect Data: Inaccurate data can arise when consolidating information from multiple sources. Copying and pasting numbers from different documents without proper verification can lead to errors, such as numbers being entered as text strings instead of numerical values. These mistakes can result in underrepresented budgets and faulty spending plans. 3. Poor Forecasting: Without clear visibility into actual spending versus projections, marketers often spend cautiously to avoid budget overreach. Poor forecasting may also result in overspending, with companies exhausting their budgets within the first 8–9 months, leading to shortfalls in the remaining months.
4. Lack of Budget Alignment: Misalignment between marketing and finance departments can cause budget discrepancies. Issues such as incorrect expense coding or mistimed expense recording are common. Without proper alignment, managing marketing finances becomes a challenge. 5. Non-Strategic Spending: Companies that lack a clear strategy often spend impulsively. Without clear objectives and a defined plan, marketing budgets are misused, leading to low ROI and missed opportunities. 6. Rush Charges: Poor planning results in last-minute tasks that often incur rush charges. These additional expenses are avoidable with proper time management and proactive planning. B] The Solution: Building a Strong Digital Marketing Strategy To overcome these budgeting issues, a well-structured digital marketing strategy is essential. A plan provides a clear roadmap for your marketing efforts and ensures your budget is used effectively. Here’s how a digital marketing strategy can help: Cost Efficiency: Thoughtful planning allows for cost-effective allocation of resources, making it possible to scale without overspending. Data-Driven Decisions: With clear performance metrics, you can evaluate which campaigns are successful and adjust your budget accordingly. Audience Targeting: Understanding your audience helps you create personalized content that drives better engagement and conversions. Budget Optimization: Funds can be redirected to high-performing campaigns, ensuring your budget delivers maximum ROI. C] Tips for Creating an Effective Digital Marketing Plan To build a successful marketing strategy, consider these key components: Know Your Audience: Segment your audience based on demographics, behaviors, and interests. Personalized campaigns resonate better and deliver higher ROI. Develop a Content Strategy: Plan the content to engage your audience and drive conversions. Utilize formats like blogs, videos, infographics, and social media posts. Identify the Right Channels: Focus on platforms that yield the highest ROI. Choose channels that align with your goals, whether it’s social media, email marketing, or SEO. Set a Budget Allocation: Determine how much to spend on each channel. Factor in expected returns, traffic, and customer value. Track Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure your success. Use these insights to make informed adjustments to your strategy. Final Thoughts A well-defined digital marketing strategy ensures your budget is used efficiently, helping you achieve your goals without overspending. By leveraging digital marketing agency ads, understanding your audience, setting clear objectives, and monitoring performance, you can maximize the impact of your marketing budget.

I grouped the rows by habitat variability and calculated average Shannon Index values and abundances, per habitat variability from 1 to 3. I decided to skip the calculation for taxonomic richness because the values for richness only ranged from 2-4, so we wouldn't expect to see any meaningful differences there. Plotted, the relationships look like this:
We can interpret these graphs to represent that abundance does have a positive relationship to the variability of habitat. The R^2 = 0.9745 indicates a strong correlation. The Shannon Biodiversity Index does not have any clear relationship with the variability of habitat
I will not be concluding that my hypothesis that "Plant pots that have more types of habitat will have more diverse communities of soil invertebrates" is supported by my results. There are simply too many sources of error, including the ones that I described in this post and more:
Taxonomic richness was capped out at 5, which is not realistic because there are likely many more. I definitely saw more than 5 species in my plots; I just wasn't able to count them all. This study by Ooms et al. (2020) found 13 species of isopods in their study area. Also, I didn't consider what my invertebrates' habitat preferences actually were. I only made an educated assumption that they would differ between them. More info on the invertebrates and their resource requirements could help to gauge the meaningfulness of my results.
Thanks for following along with my project! Feel free to submit questions or comments on the blog.

Advanced Error Handling Techniques in Azure Data Factory
Azure Data Factory (ADF) is a powerful data integration tool, but handling errors efficiently is crucial for building robust data pipelines. This blog explores advanced error-handling techniques in ADF to ensure resilience, maintainability, and better troubleshooting.
1. Understanding Error Types in ADF
Before diving into advanced techniques, it’s essential to understand common error types in ADF:
Transient Errors — Temporary issues such as network timeouts or throttling.
Data Errors — Issues with source data integrity, format mismatches, or missing values.
Configuration Errors — Incorrect linked service credentials, dataset configurations, or pipeline settings.
System Failures — Service outages or failures in underlying compute resources.
2. Implementing Retry Policies for Transient Failures
ADF provides built-in retry mechanisms to handle transient errors. When configuring activities:
Enable Retries — Set the retry count and interval in activity settings.
Use Exponential Backoff — Adjust retry intervals dynamically to reduce repeated failures.
Leverage Polybase for SQL — If integrating with Azure Synapse, ensure the retry logic aligns with PolyBase behavior.
Example JSON snippet for retry settings in ADF:jsonCopyEdit"policy": { "concurrency": 1, "retry": { "count": 3, "intervalInSeconds": 30 } }
3. Using Error Handling Paths in Data Flows
Data Flows in ADF allow “Error Row Handling” settings per transformation. Options include:
Continue on Error — Skips problematic records and processes valid ones.
Redirect to Error Output — Routes bad data to a separate table or storage for investigation.
Fail on Error — Stops the execution on encountering issues.
Example: Redirecting bad records in a Derived Column transformation.
In Data Flow, select the Derived Column transformation.
Choose “Error Handling” → Redirect errors to an alternate sink.
Store bad records in a storage account for debugging.
4. Implementing Try-Catch Patterns in Pipelines
ADF doesn’t have a traditional try-catch block, but we can emulate it using:
Failure Paths — Use activity dependencies to handle failures.
Set Variables & Logging — Capture error messages dynamically.
Alerting Mechanisms — Integrate with Azure Monitor or Logic Apps for notifications.
Example: Using Failure Paths
Add a Web Activity after a Copy Activity.
Configure Web Activity to log errors in an Azure Function or Logic App.
Set the dependency condition to “Failure” for error handling.
5. Using Stored Procedures for Custom Error Handling
For SQL-based workflows, handling errors within stored procedures enhances control.
Example:sqlBEGIN TRY INSERT INTO target_table (col1, col2) SELECT col1, col2 FROM source_table; END TRY BEGIN CATCH INSERT INTO error_log (error_message, error_time) VALUES (ERROR_MESSAGE(), GETDATE()); END CATCH
Use RETURN codes to signal success/failure.
Log errors to an audit table for investigation.
6. Logging and Monitoring Errors with Azure Monitor
To track failures effectively, integrate ADF with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
Enable diagnostic logging in ADF.
Capture execution logs, activity failures, and error codes.
Set up alerts for critical failures.
Example: Query failed activities in Log AnalyticskustoADFActivityRun | where Status == "Failed" | project PipelineName, ActivityName, ErrorMessage, Start, End
7. Handling API & External System Failures
When integrating with REST APIs, handle external failures by:
Checking HTTP Status Codes — Use Web Activity to validate responses.
Implementing Circuit Breakers — Stop repeated API calls on consecutive failures.
Using Durable Functions — Store state for retrying failed requests asynchronously.
Example: Configure Web Activity to log failuresjson"dependsOn": [ { "activity": "API_Call", "dependencyConditions": ["Failed"] } ]
8. Leveraging Custom Logging with Azure Functions
For advanced logging and alerting:
Use an Azure Function to log errors to an external system (SQL DB, Blob Storage, Application Insights).
Pass activity parameters (pipeline name, error message) to the function.
Trigger alerts based on severity.
Conclusion
Advanced error handling in ADF involves: ✅ Retries and Exponential Backoff for transient issues. ✅ Error Redirects in Data Flows to capture bad records. ✅ Try-Catch Patterns using failure paths. ✅ Stored Procedures for custom SQL error handling. ✅ Integration with Azure Monitor for centralized logging. ✅ API and External Failure Handling for robust external connections.
By implementing these techniques, you can enhance the reliability and maintainability of your ADF pipelines. 🚀

Race Conditions in Laravel: Security Risks and Prevention
In this blog, we’ll explore what race conditions are, how they impact Laravel applications, and how to prevent them using practical coding examples. Additionally, we’ll show you how to assess your website’s vulnerabilities with our free Website Security Scanner tool.

What Are Race Conditions?
A race condition arises when two or more processes or threads execute simultaneously, and the output depends on the sequence or timing of their execution. In Laravel, this issue typically occurs when working with database transactions, caches, or queues. For instance:
A user submits two simultaneous requests to withdraw money from their account.
Both requests bypass a balance check before the withdrawal is complete, leading to an overdraft.
These vulnerabilities not only disrupt functionality but can also be exploited by attackers to manipulate data or gain unauthorized access.
Impact of Race Conditions in Laravel Applications
Some potential consequences of race conditions include:
Financial fraud – Exploiting concurrent transactions.
Data inconsistency – Overwriting shared resources.
Privilege escalation – Gaining unauthorized access to protected resources.
How to Detect Race Conditions
Identifying race conditions can be challenging but is crucial for securing your Laravel application. Use our free Website Security Checker tool to scan your website for vulnerabilities, including those related to race conditions.
Coding Examples to Mitigate Race Conditions
Below are examples to demonstrate common race condition scenarios in Laravel and how to mitigate them effectively:
1. Database Locking Using Transactions
One way to prevent race conditions is by using database transactions with locks.
use Illuminate\Support\Facades\DB; DB::transaction(function () { $account = DB::table('accounts')->where('id', 1)- >lockForUpdate()->first(); if ($account->balance >= 100) { DB::table('accounts')->where('id', 1)- >decrement('balance', 100); } });
In this code:
lockForUpdate() ensures no other transaction can access the row until the current transaction completes.
2. Using Redis for Distributed Locking
For distributed applications, using Redis locks is a common solution:
use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Redis; $lock = Redis::lock('withdraw:account:1', 10); if ($lock->get()) { // Perform the operation Redis::unlock('withdraw:account:1'); }
This ensures that only one operation is performed on the shared resource.
3. Queues and Job Prioritization
Laravel's queues are also helpful in preventing race conditions. Prioritize jobs to ensure critical tasks are executed sequentially.
dispatch(new WithdrawMoney($accountId, $amount))->onQueue('transactions');
Image Example: Detect Race Conditions with Our Tool

Instagram Has Gone 4:5
That’s not really the point here, is it?
Earlier this week, social media managers woke up to a decision that would fundamentally alter how they approach their work. Let’s not sugarcoat what it means to be a social media manager in 2025—these professionals are graphic designers, photographers, account managers, and digital marketers all at once. This week, Instagram decided the grid would go 4:5.
This change lands in a fractured social media landscape. It has been years since the men, seated in the front row at January 20th’s inauguration, prioritized genuine connection over profit. We log on not because we want to, but because we feel compelled to—and our moods deteriorate as a result. We’ve collectively voiced a desire to leave platforms like Instagram, but the alternatives still feel inadequate. Now, amid this disillusionment, Instagram has quietly discarded over a decade of design work by users with one sweeping change.
Most blogs addressing this update will stick to the practicalities. I’ll save you the time: make your images at 1080 x 1350 or 1536 x 1920. The process, however, is far from intuitive. After selecting your images, click "Next," find the dashed square icon at the bottom left of the image preview, and set your post to "Portrait." If you make a mistake, don’t worry—Instagram has also made deleting a post far less accessible. But let’s not kid ourselves—that’s not really the point here, is it?
Creatives have had to accept that our portfolios cannot exist solely on our websites. This is why Shout! Graphics has an official social media policy. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X aren’t just social spaces—they’re search engines. They dictate visibility, and if your work is seen, your next contract might depend on the immediate look of your grid. With one unilateral change, a carefully curated portfolio no longer reflects the creator’s intent. Sure, I can adapt future assets, but the time, effort, and resources I’ve already poured into optimizing for 1:1? Gone. The effectiveness of the grid I’ve built has been significantly diminished.
Instagram’s move from 1:1 to 4:5 is an abrasive reminder of how little control we have in these spaces. We don’t set the rules; we’re forced to play by them. They can change the rules at any moment. There is nothing we can do about it. The only place where we maintain true creative control is our own websites.
This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a message. Instagram’s decision underscores a lack of respect for its users’ labor and investment. As creatives, we must recognize this for what it is: a move that reinforces the need for independence. Social platforms can serve as tools, but they should never dictate how we define or present our work. The shift to 4:5 isn’t just about aspect ratios; it’s about power dynamics. This is yet another decision made on our behalf, but not for us.
